LifeNet International was recognized for its commitment to transform African health centers to provide quality, sustainable care. The organization’s multidisciplinary approach to health care quality improvement employs business-minded principles to strengthen local capacity and provide access to essential knowledge and tools at remote, faith-based health facilities where poor and vulnerable patients access care. Through franchise partnerships with health facilities in Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Malawi, and Uganda, LifeNet International implements practical responses to everyday health challenges facing people in need.

This approach includes programs aimed at the early detection and treatment of non-communicable diseases, such as diabetes and hypertension, and training and equipping local health care workers in medical and management best practices. LifeNet International continuously adapts its training program to directly address the unique needs of its partner facilities and significantly improve the quality of care they deliver.

“Our multi-disciplinary team provides high-quality data, the business skills needed to establish working relationships with partners, and the medical knowledge necessary to train health workers to provide improved care to patients,” said Dan Evans, President, LifeNet International. “It is incredibly rewarding to be recognized for our work, and to be honored alongside two organizations dedicated to improving public health. We thank Henry Schein and the Henry Schein Cares Foundation for this recognition, and we look forward to expanding our impact with their support.”

An independent panel of judges selected LifeNet International as this year’s “Best In Class” medalist from a field that included fellow medalists Youth & Family Resource Center (Shawnee, Oklahoma) and Tri-City Health Center (Fremont, California). Each medalist receives a $10,000 cash award from the Henry Schein Cares Foundation.

“LifeNet International shares Team Schein’s belief that public health can be greatly improved by not just improving access to care, but by strengthening the health care capacity of local providers and community organizations as well,” said Stanley M. Bergman, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Henry Schein. “We are pleased to honor each of our Henry Schein Cares Medal winners, and to name LifeNet International ‘Best In Class’ for using the power of collaboration to positively impact community health in Africa.”
