MELVILLE, N.Y., April 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Henry Schein, Inc. (NASDAQ: HSIC), the world's largest provider of health care products and services to office-based dental, animal health and medical practitioners, announced today that Stanley M. Bergman, the Company's Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer, accepted the New York University (NYU) Africa House Leadership Award on behalf of the Bergman family and Henry Schein, Inc. Mr. Bergman was presented with the award at Africa House's inaugural gala, held at NYU's Kimmel Center in New York City, in recognition of his, his family's, and the Company's outstanding commitment, leadership, and service to support the social and economic development of Africa.

NYU Africa House is an interdisciplinary institute dedicated to the study of Africa, its economics, politics, and social issues, and its role in the global community. Since the institute's founding 10 years ago, Mr. Bergman and his family have engaged with Africa House to foster relationships across cultures and borders to plant the seeds of understanding. The family's involvement began with Mr. Bergman's son, Eddie Bergman, who is a graduate of NYU and has served as a board member with the institute since its inception.

• The Honorable Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Minister, Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Creative Arts, Republic of Ghana, who received the Africa House Partnership Award for her collaboration on research activities and community work undertaken by Africa House and the Ministry of Tourism in Ghana;
• NYU Africa House/Center for Technology and Economic Development (CTED) community partners in Kumawu, Ghana who received the Africa House Partnership Award for their ongoing support and collaboration on research projects. The award was accepted on behalf of the community by Theresa Effia Ataa, Boafuorhemaa of the Kumawu Traditional Area; and
• Alisa LaGamma, Ph.D., Ceil and Michael E. Pulitzer Curator in Charge, Department of the Arts of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas, who received the Africa House Vision Award for her leadership in changing the way we see Africa.
