Henry Schein Divests Non-Strategic German X-Ray Film Distributor

09/02/03

MELVILLE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 2, 2003--Henry Schein, Inc. (Nasdaq: HSIC), the largest provider of healthcare products and services to office-based practitioners in the combined North American and European markets, today announced that it has entered into an agreement to divest its PMA Bode, GmbH business.

Based in Hamburg, Germany, Bode is a distributor of x-ray film products and accessories to hospitals and other institutions in the German market. Henry Schein originally acquired this business as part of its acquisition of the Heiland Group, GmbH, which was completed in January 1999. This divestiture will not have an impact on future earnings. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Henry Schein has entered into the agreement to divest Bode since the business does not fit its long-term strategic goals. As a result of the divestiture, the Company will record a one-time, after-tax loss of approximately $2.0 million, or $0.05 per diluted share, in the third quarter of 2003. Bode had revenues in its last twelve months of approximately $31 million, which were reported as part of Henry Schein's International Group.

Recognized for its excellent customer service and low prices, Henry Schein serves more than 400,000 customers worldwide, including dental practices and laboratories, physician practices and veterinary clinics, as well as government and other institutions.
