10/13/16
Renowned Veterinarian Recognized for Her Commitment to Education for Animal Health Practitioners and People Living in Poverty in Argentina

MELVILLE, N.Y., Oct. 13, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Henry Schein, Inc. (Nasdaq: HSIC) announced today that Dr. Adriana Noacco is the recipient of the fourth annual Henry Schein Cares International Veterinary Community Service Award in recognition of her service to people living in poverty in Argentina.

Dr. Noacco received the award at the gala dinner of the 2016 World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) World Congress, held in Cartagena, Colombia.

The Henry Schein Cares International Veterinary Community Service Award honors exceptional acts of valor and commitment performed by veterinarians in the face of adversity and in service to the veterinary community and beyond. Dr. Noacco was honored for training veterinarians and providing education and support to the underserved in her home country.

Dr. Noacco currently serves as the Director of the Community Development Centre, Veterinary Faculty, at the University of Buenos Aires, where she has been instrumental in the creation of educational and support programs for those experiencing difficult economic circumstances in Argentina. Topics have included raising farm animals in semi-rural areas, developing self-sustaining food resources, practicing hygiene, and animal health and welfare. She has also helped the Centre to create customized training programs for veterinarians and other professionals on topics such as agriculture and livestock management so they are better equipped to support communities struggling with poverty and hunger.

Roberto Cohen, General Manager, Latin America, Henry Schein, presented the award to Dr. Noacco. The award is an initiative of Henry Schein Cares, the Company's global social responsibility program.

"I am absolutely thrilled to receive this award," Dr. Noacco said. "It means a great deal to me, to the faculty, to my department, and to the people I work with. We have already started some new projects thanks to the generous support we are receiving from our colleagues at the WSAVA and Henry Schein. I'd like to say a big thank you to them."

In addition to her role at the Community Development Centre, Dr. Noacco also serves as Secretary of the Faculty Extension Department of the University of Buenos Aires, where she leads post-graduate continuing education and other activities for veterinarians in Argentina. She has also developed initiatives to help raise awareness of rabies and other zoonotic diseases. Since 2014, she has been the Undersecretary for Social Development for the Veterinary Faculty, coordinating and developing outreach activities in the community in all aspects of food safety, food security, public health, climatic disasters, and community and family involvement in ensuring food sustainability.

The Henry Schein Cares International Veterinary Community Service Award was created in 2013 by Dr. Nigel Nichols, Vice President, International Animal Health GroupAsia Pacific Region, Henry Schein; and Dr. John Maclachlan, Past President of the New Zealand Veterinary Association, which is a member organization of WSAVA. Henry Schein recognizes the WSAVA annual conference as a particularly suitable forum to present this award by showcasing to the global veterinary community the achievements of veterinarians in regional areas.

"Henry Schein is proud to stand with the WSAVA and recognize Dr. Noacco, whose commitment to animals and people in need exemplify the spirit of the Henry Schein Cares International Veterinary Community Service Award," Dr. Nichols said. "Dr. Noacco has dedicated her career to enhancing the quality of veterinary education and the health and wellbeing of animals living in Argentina, and her compassion for those in need make her an excellent recipient."
